Democracy Vineyards

By vawineaddict - Posted on 26 May 2009

Hey everyone, hope you had a good memorial day weekend.  I was curious if anyone knew anything about this Democracy vineyard.  I passed by a sign for it over the weekend and wanted to know if anyone has had their wines.  Just wanting to check and see if it's worth my time to stop in if I'm back in that area at some point.

I personally have not had them yet and unfornunately their webpage isn't too descriptive, you can check it out yourself.  I am pretty sure that they will be at the Vintage Virginia festival this weekend, so I will have to check them out while I'm there.

Well, it's past the weekend now so thought I would see if you have formed a conclusion yet on democracy vineyards.  I was hoping to go to that festival myself but wasn't able to unfortunately.  So, were they any good?

Democracy had a really good white. They are brand new this year and are producing 2 wines. It also seems they are getting some tips from Micheal Schapps and were selling a few varieties of his Virginia Wineworks wines. My fiancee bought a bottle of the white - actually it was the only bottle we bought at the festival. I'm looking forward to actually having a glass.

too add onto sinfathisar, as I did open my bottle of their white last night.  Their white wine they have so far is the Declaration reserve and is a great mix of Chardonnay, Tarminette and Seyval Blanc grapes.  It makes for an interesting white and I enjoyed it so much I wrote a review on it that will be up this weekend.  They also make a red called Velvet Revolution which is a mix of various Vitis Vinifera (traditional european grapes) and hybrid grapes.  I'll have to get a bottle of it at some point but it was quite a nice red at the festival.

other then that the above information is pretty good so ya I have nothing else to add for now.

alright, their wines really sound great I'm definately going to have to check them out.
