2006 Category 5 – Raylen Vineyards – Mocksville, NC (Yadkin Valley)

$20.00

This is another one of the Yadkin Valley wines that I had during my rather pleasant layover at Charlotte International. As with the other wines during my tasting experience there, I of course couldn't get that freshly opened bottle aroma that I love so much. But, of course you can always get just as good of a smell from a nice pouring of the wine as I did here. The aroma you get from this wine is pretty nice with some pleasing fruit smells. The most notable of these fruit smells was what I believed to be plum with maybe a little currant though the currant was very subtle. As for the taste of this wine, you really get a lot of great flavours that really round out this nice wine. The plum taste carries over pretty nicely, and you also get a nice flavour of vanilla to it that gives it a little something special. You also get a bit of a kick with this wine with the slightly stronger taste of alcohol than I generally like, but its nice long finish really made it all even out in my book. Now I didn't have food with this one as it was a pairing, but I really think this would go well with a nice steak, meatloaf or even a nice sun-dried tomato pasta. This is a lovely wine that has a lot going for it which I believe you will love quite a lot, especially if you are already a fan of wines such as merlots or cabernet sauvignons.

If you would like to purchase this wine you can get it direct from the vineyard here. Remember to make sure they can ship to your state.
